These 12 cats are just a few of the many cats, dogs, rabbits and other animals rescued in the aftermath of the recent Joplin MO tornado. (Click any photo to biggify.)
Of course, such a calamity strains the resources of local shelters. Most of the rescued animals went to the Joplin Humane Society, with the overflow farmed out to nearby shelters. Some of the animals’ families have been found, but they will be staying at the shelter until their families find shelter themselves.
You can help. Here’s info about Joplin Humane and how to donate:
The Joplin Humane Society accepts and provides sanctuary to any animal that comes through our doors. We believe that every animal, even those too sick, too abused or too aggressive to be adopted deserves to be treated fairly.
As a shelter with an open door policy we don’t pick and choose which animals to allow in our shelter. When owners cast them aside, we offer these orphaned animals a safe haven; free from neglect and abuse. Each animal is given food, shelter and medical care.
$50.00 will help provide flea treatment and/or heartworm testing
$75.00 will spay or neuter one small shelter dog or cat
$100.00 will spay or neuter one large shelter dog
$250.00 will provide one day of care for 10 shelter dogs and cats
$500.00 will provide care, food and medical attention for three shelter dogs or cats from intake to adoption.
