Dennis T Menace, a longtime mascot of the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society, passed away peacefully in his sleep this week at the age of 19.

The one-eyed orange tabby was “a special guy” according to Executive Director Melanie Coulter. “He touched a lot of people.”

Dennis T Menace has died at age 19Dennis arrived at the shelter in 1995 with his brother, Tommy, and was an enthusiastic ambassador for the shelter for sixteen years.

According to society, “In his younger years Dennis had a huge personality. He was often at the front desk stepping on keyboards, hanging up phones and strutting in front of customers. His favourite hobby of ripping open pet food bags and stealing food was often forgiven because his charm always won us over.”

Tommy went to The Bridge in 2004. Dennis mourned the loss of his littermate, but continued in his role. In his sunset years he lost an eye to glaucoma, but recovered quickly from the surgery.

The Society is now left with just one mascot, Freddie the Cat.
