Working Cats: Henry the Feline Fiber Artist

Henry the handsome tuxie is a cat who has always loved to scratch, ever since he was a kitten. He was also endowed with the soul of an artist, so he just couldn’t help himself — the ugly chairs in the living room looked ever so much better after he created interesting textures for them.
Like many cat parents, his people didn’t quite see his work as art — at least not at first. They tried to divert his artistic intentions with a nice scratching post. But Henry marched to the tune of a different drummer and refused to scratch just like every other cat. He quickly returned to his work on the chair.
So his people took a couple of strips of carpet remnants and nailed them to the wall. Henry’s creative muse shifted into overdrive and he scratched the crap outta those strips of carpet. Even better, no one yelled at Henry for doing it.
Henry worked on those pieces of carpet until they were transformed into something magical and mystical, until they became A-R-T!

The flat boring strips of carpet gave birth to textury looping loops of fiber that caught the imagination of local art critiques in Bangor, Maine.
First, there was the art show of Henry’s work at the Bangor Public Library. Then, Hollywood called. Henry starred in a segment of Cats 101 on Animal Planet.
Today, Henry has the requisite Facebook fan page and followers around the world.
