Walter the 28-lb Cat at Oregon Humane Finds Furever Home

Walter, a sweet but obese cat surrendered to the Oregon Humane Society, is headed to his furever home with Colleen Sanders this morning. Tipping the scales at a whopping 28 lbs. (about twice the size of two big cats), Walter was one of the fattest cats the shelter has seen.
“That cat weighs five pounds more than my kid,” said animal care technician Sarah Bergerson. “She’s two.”

This is Walter’s second stay at Oregon Humane. He was recently surrendered when his guardian had to enter an assisted-care facility. He weighed in at 17 lbs. when he was adopted out the first time in 2009.
During his most recent stay, Walter got a good headstart on a diet and exercise regimen, losing 3 lbs. his first week.
Here’s a video of this big sweet boy:
“Obese cats are no laughing matter, and we will give a free bag of low-calorie cat food and a laser pointer for exercise to whoever adopts Walter,” OHS executive director Sharon Harmon said.
When asked about his weight issues, Walter said, “Look, I’m big-boned. And fluffy. The camera adds 10 pounds, you know.”

Paws crossed he finds a forever forever home ASAP.
Poor Walter. It looks like he’s having trouble walking
Glad that he has found a new furever home and hopefully has a happy and healthy live there.
