Deaf Cat found via Twitter

When a deaf white cat, Turkish, disappeared from his home north of London last week, his guardian, Jenny contacted her neighbor, Robyn Pierce, a social media maven, for help finding him

Pierce knew there were a lot of tweeters within the N16 postal code (hashtag N16), so she sent out a tweet to them and to the Cats Protection League.

Shortly after tweeting, she found a post by a Tweeter saying their friend had found a white cat just three streets away from Turkish’s home and had been looking after him.

A few hours later, Turkish was back home.

Pierce said that social media sites like Twitter can be powerful communications tools in local communities.

“I wasn’t surprised that we found him because I am completely convinced about the power of Twitter as a community tool for information,” she said.

“Now I can use the tale of Turkish to explain Twitter to people who don’t understand it,” she added.

Turkish is recuperating from his oreal at Jenny’s parents’ home in the country and was not available for comment.
