Happy Birthday to Cat Guy, John Barrymore
Actor John Barrymore was born on this day in 1882 (birth name: John Sidney Blyth). Youngsters, you might know him better as Drew Barrymore’s paternal granddad.
So why should kittehs care?
Barrymore was a cat guy, and named the first of many Algonquin Hotel cats. The Algonquin has had a cat in residence since the 1930s. Their male cats, named by Barrymore, have always been called Hamlet; the females (including the current Algonquin cat) have been named Mathilda.
