Our interview subjects today are Rascal and Rocco, feline hosts of the Friday Pet Parade blog hop. We were fortunate to be able to co-host with them and Bionic Basil from the hop’s inception – until our recent retirement. (They later added a couple of popular dog co-hosts.)
They brought along their brother Max, who politely and excitedly asked to participate. How could we say no?
Funny Farmer Felines: Please introduce yourselves and your human.
Rascal: Hi, I’m Rascal and this is…
Rocco: I can introduce myself, thank you. I’m Rocco, the sophisticated brother.
Rascal: Ya right. I have a book published; what do you have?
Rocco: I’m in it too.
Rascal: Anyway, we’re Rascal and Rocco. We’re the best looking bachelor brothers (hi, ladies) on the west coast. We run this blog, with our human, L.E. Mastilock, typing and editing for us since paws make that part difficult.
Max: I’m Max! I’m not a feline, I’m a dog. I steer clear of these bossy cats most of the time, but I do get featured on the blog just as much as they do now. I love treats if you have any you need to get rid of!
Rocco: No one is giving anything away, Max.
Max: It doesn’t hurt to ask.
Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live together?
Rocco: We were adopted by our human family a few years ago. They weren’t too hard to train and they treat us well, so we kept them. Rascal wrote the whole story, which you can read in the book ‘Rescued: The Stories of 12 Cats, Through Their Eyes’. Proceeds go to animal shelters.
Max: I was adopted later after the humans had suffered a loss and needed some serious cheering up. I’m so glad they picked me! I love them, I love them, I love them so much!
Rascal: Okay, Max, don’t get too excited. He likes the kids the best. No idea why. Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any nicknames?
Rascal: Both of us were referred to as Rascal before the humans settled on any names. They finally saddled me with the name and had a harder time coming up with something for Rocco. The little girl picked his name because his markings looked like rocks to her, which I find hilarious!
Rocco: Hey! My name is very dignified, much more so than yours. A little known fact is that our previous names were Moon and Star because of our markings. Our new people thought they were not manly enough for us.
Funny Farmer Felines: Tell us a little about the area where you live.
Rascal: We live in gorgeous Santa Cruz, California. We love it! It doesn’t get too cold, the mountain and ocean air always smell delicious. We get to come and go as we please and have the run of the neighborhood. We love visiting the neighbors and begging for treats. Once Rocco even got shut in a garage. I’m not that slow, but I admit, I have no qualms about inspecting other people’s houses.
Max: I am perfectly content to stay in the house or back yard. My people take me for special walks and even drive me to the beach or park!
Rascal: On a leash! I would never allow that thing on me.
Funny Farmer Felines: What kind of mischief do you prefer?
Rascal: I like to inspect everything, so if it’s left out, hey, it’s fair game. And if it’s breakable, well, don’t leave it out or up on a shelf where it can easily be knocked down.
Rocco: I admit, my favorite thing to do is nap, and I like to try out new places and surfaces. I agree with Rascal, if it’s left out, it’s fair game.
Max: I don’t get into mischief. I don’t think. My people don’t always let me under the covers, but I’m not sure why. When they’re not sleeping in the bed I burrow under the covers without any problems.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you participate in any blogging events or belong to any groups or clubs?
Rascal: We love the community of BlogPaws. We’re all for keeping the good old Carnival of the Cats going, and of course, if you know us at all, you know we love a good parade.
Rocco: The Pet Parade pet blogger hop starts on our blog each Friday. We have a bunch of fantastic co-hosts that we’ve loved getting to know, such as the Funny Farmers!
Funny Farmer Felines: How long have you been blogging and what made you begin?
Rascal: Our human has blogged for 4 years, but our blog began 2 years ago because our fabulous stories were taking over her personal blog. We needed more room to stretch out.
Funny Farmer Felines: Are you planning anything special for the future of your blog?
Rocco: We just revamped the blog so it has a brand new look and is all spiffed up and tidy. Still lots of work to do to polish up each post that may not have transferred to wordpress perfectly. We’re working on a logo.
Rascal: We want to try to find the time to blog more regularly, but it does interfere so with napping and when there’s a great sun puddle or warm pile of fresh laundry in the basket, it’s almost impossible to resist. And our human wants us to feature her cat and other animal drawings frequently. Rocco and I are still discussing it.
Funny Farmer Felines: The felines … and Max … can be found hanging around the Rascal and Rocco blog. And all pet bloggers are welcome to join them and their co-hosts for the Friday Pet Parade.
