Cat Scout Cat and Future Scout Nugget

We love stories with a happy ending and a new beginning. Pull up a cushion for the story of Cat Scout Cat and Nugget, two cats who found a new beginning.

Funny Farmer Felines: Please introduce yourselves and your human.

Cat: Hi, I’m Cat and I’m about 6 years old. When I was about 1 or 2, I heard that the best place to live in the area was at my now human mom and dad’s house. With that said, I made their house my destination, but there was one problem, they were beagle people. They had never had a cat. I started hanging around the property and when she would bring Pokey the beagle out I would run over to introduce myself. She would immediately go back in the house for fear that I might have a disease or something since I was a stray cat. Even so, she started feeding me because she loves animals but said I was strictly an outdoor cat.

Pokey thought I was really cool and what mom didn’t know is that when the dog sitter would come over to take care of Pokey, I would go for walks down the driveway with them. When mom found this out, she decided to take me to the vet to get me checked out. Once I had my shots and a clean bill of health, she would let me hang around Pokey, and she would let me jump up on the deck. She even named me Cat and told Pokey and my human dad that I would be the outdoor cat. She named me Cat so she wouldn’t get attached to me. I had to show her how much I wanted to live with them so two consecutive nights I took her voles and laid them on the front porch. Because she cared about me she made another vet appointment to get me fixed. After my operation the vet tech told her I should stay in the house for a few nights. Well, that was it, I haven’t been back outside since. Pokey told me she liked me because I have beagle colors. About a year later, Pokey went to the rainbow bridge.

Nugget: Hi I’m Nugget. I am three and a half years old. The first three years of my life I lived in a lab and was tested on. It was a horrible life. I even have tattoos in my ears from the horrible lab. Last October some really nice people for the Beagle Freedom Project came and rescued me. I went to a really cool foster home for three months where I learned what life as a cat was meant to be like. My photo was put up on the Beagle Freedom website in an attempt to find me a forever home. I want everyone to know if they want to help a really good cause to check out Beagle Freedom.

Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live together?

Cat: Mom is a supporter of the Beagle Freedom Project and one day she was on their website looking at the adoption page when she saw Nugget. The rest was history, in Nov of 2014 she applied to adopt a cat and listed Nugget as her preferred cat. A few weeks later she was flying out to Nevada to pick him up.

Nugget: Well, once I was adjusted to being out of the lab, I was put up for adoption. It didn’t take long before I was getting ready to move to my forever home. I met my new mom and the next morning she put me in a carrier and off to the airport I went. I got to ride under the seat and everyone commented on how good I was. My now mom got to tell my story about 6 times in the airport. We arrived home and after about 8 days I got to meet Cat. She wasn’t too sure about me but she grew to like me as the weeks went by. Now we are pretty good friends. And if I may, I would like to say a big thank you to the Beagle Freedom Project.

Funny Farmer Felines: Tell us a little about the area where you live.

Cat: We live in Michigan on 18 acres. It is great place to live, we get to watch bird TV and have lots of bunnies, and deer too.

Nugget: Bird TV is cool but my favorite is bug TV now that it is Summer and the bugs are out.

Funny Farmer Felines: What kind of mischief do you prefer?

Cat: Neither of us get into too much mischief. Mom and Dad think we are little angels. We like to chase each other around and I paw at Nugget and he runs up and headbutts me. We both like to chase flys and moths.

Nugget: Cat forgot to mention that we often jump up on the counters. The dinning room table is one of my favorite places to lay but don’t tell the dinner guests.

Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any nicknames?

Cat: My nickname is Kit Cat Bar.

Nugget: My nickname is Nuggie or Orange Boy.

Funny Farmer Felines: Cat, how did you become interested in joining the Cat Scouts?

Cat: In May of 2014, after reading one of Max’s books, mom was reading an edition of Mousebreath when she saw the advertisement for Cat Scouts. She thought it would be good for me to join so she signed me up.

Funny Farmer Felines: Cat, what do you like best about Cat Scouts?

Cat: I have made some really good friends at Cat Scouts. In addition to my friends, I think it has made me a better cat.

Funny Farmer Felines: Are you able to participate in many CS activities and if so tell us a little about them?

Cat: Mom lets me participate in lots of events. I have gone to New Orleans, Paris, the Noth Pole and attend lots of great parties. I have gotten quit a few badges but still have many to go. I really like being able to brighten other cats or humans days through service projects and being a cat angel.

Funny Farmer Felines: Nugget, does Cat’s participation in the Cat Scouts entice you to want to join also? If not, what do you enjoy?

Nugget: Well, I might join someday, right now I am still learning to be a cat, since I’ve only been out of the lab for 8 months. I really like playing with my toys, watching bugs, eating treats and most of all sitting with my mom. I don’t have a blog because my mom says she doesn’t have time. She does let me post things on her facebook page.

Funny Farmer Felines: If your mom were to describe what makes you both special, what do you think she would say?

Cat: How much we both love her. Our favorite past time is sitting on her lap or laying by her head. One thing we know for sure, we have turned both mom and dad into cat people.

Nugget: Cat is right. We do love her but in addition, she says Cat had a hard life in the wild before she was adopted, and as for me, she tells me I’m a very special boy because of my horrible first three years of my life as a lab cat. She says she is going to make my life the very best she can. Thanks mom!

Cat can be found hanging around the Cat Scouts, and in the (hopefully, near) future Nugget will be found there too.

OMC, how horrible that Nugget was in a lab – I think that is worse than being at a kill shelter! I’m so glad he was rescued. The Beagle Freedom Project sounds awesome.

I am sorry you both had such rough starts, but I am glad you have a wonderful forever home now.
