Cat Survives 400-ft Cliff Fall

cat-survives-cliff-fallA white and brown tabby slipped from the edge of the crumbling chalk cliff at the Birling Gap in the UK this week, falling onto the beach’s boulders below.

Miraculously, the cat escaped serious injury in the fall near Beachy Head in Eastbourne, East Sussex, suffering just a broken tooth and fractured jaw.

The National Trust claims the Birling gap has suffered seven years’ worth of erosion in just the past few months. The popular tourist spot is a highly “at risk” area, with buildings on the edge in imminent danger of collapsing into the sea.

Staff from the South Downs National Trust found the injured cat and took him to a local vet for treatment.

A nurse at the clinic said, “He is making a full recovery. He avoided any serious damage to any of his limbs but has some injuries to his face.

“We think he must be quite some way from his home as, from his demeanour, he clearly isn’t a feral cat.”

He had neither a collar nor a chip, so the vets will try to place him in a new home once he has recovered.

A spokesperson for the National Trust said, “He is such a cutie.

“We would love to have him as an office cat but it’s not possible because of night times and, given that he fell off the cliff once, we’re not sure it’s the best place for him.”

  1. That is one lucky cat! Well, lucky that he survived, not that he fell off the cliff.
