Clarissa and 13 Furblings

It’s always interesting to interview a full house of cats. Different personalities and different beginnings blended into one family. Today we are privileged to visit a home (Clarissa’s House of Cats) with fourteen different stories – or one story, depending on your perspective.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Please introduce yourself and your human.

Clarissa: My name is Clarissa and I am an (almost) 17 year old calico. I’ve lived with my human mom, Malinda, since I was 8 weeks old.

Funny Farmer Felines: If you have any furry siblings, please introduce them too.

Clarissa:  I have 13 furblings!  I’ll let them introduce themselves.

Sable:  I’m a solid black boy cat, almost 16. Some little girls were in front of Target with 8-week-old kittens that needed forever homes. I was the only one left.

Jazzpurr: I’m a tortiseshell, perhaps 14 or 15. I joined the clan with Serendipity.

Serendipity: Hi there! I’m a 14-year-old dilute calico (gray/peach/white). I was being fostered along with Jazzpurr. Mom adopted both of us.

Fiona: I’m a small calico with only one eye. The shelter wasn’t exactly sure of my age, but I’m probably around 14 or 15 years old. My calico patches are tabby striped, so I guess I’m a “tabbicoe”.

Daisy:  I’m a thin, cranky13-year-old tortiseshell and I talk a lot. Mom thinks I might have some Siamese blood in my makeup.

Memphis:  I’m about 13, a Siamese/Manx mix.

Batman: I’m 16 and solid black I moved to Kentucky from Ohio with Ginger, Angel Panda, Puff, and Spunky when I was 5.

Ginger: I’m 15, white with tabby patches. Two littermate brothers (Puff & Spunky) live here too. We had a littermate sister named Panda, but she crossed the Bridge when she was 9.

Puff: I’m a medium/long haired cat and brother to Ginger & Spunky. I have mostly a tabby coat with white legs, chest & belly. My siblings all have short fur.

Spunky: And I’m Spunky, white with tabby patches, and I’m just a little cross-eyed. I’m bonded with Ginger and we love to cuddle together. We will also cuddle with Batman.

Lily: I’m probably 16 or 17, solid white with medium hair. I used to have one gold eye and one blue eye, but I’m blind now and have cataracts. I’m also deaf on my right side. And the people before mom had all four of my paws declawed.

Cash: I’m 10, a tabby, and I have a litter mate brother. I love to headbonk and give kisses, and then nip your nose or ear!

Johnny:  I’m Cash’s tabby brother! Mom had a hard time telling us apart when we first moved in. His eyes are green and mine are more gold. I also have a white patch on my throat.

Funny Farmer Felines:  How did you all come to live together?

Clarissa:  Mom was looking to adopt a dog, but when she saw me she said it was love at first sight. Her own mother had crossed the bridge a month before and I helped heal her heart.

Sable:  I was a “free to a good home” kitten.

Jazzpurr and Serendipity: Mom saw us at a pet supply store. We were actually being fostered in someone’s home, but we were at the store in hopes of finding a forever home. The foster organization asked that we be adopted together.

Fiona & Memphis:  Mom saw us on PetFinder. Me (Fiona) came first. I was living in a shelter in Bowling Green, KY. Mom said she fell in love with my face. I was a cranky girl and it took a long time for me to become a cuddlebug. I still like to bite sometimes. Memphis was living in the city shelter in Louisville. He was such a handsome boy with bright blue eyes. Memphis immediately bonded with mom’s brother, so he hangs out with him most of the time.

Daisy: A friend of mom’s saw me when she was visiting a garden nursery. I was living outside and being fed, but I wasn’t really their cat. Eventually, I was caught and mom took me in. I had already been spayed and was about a year old.

Ginger, Puff, Spunky, & Batman:  Our first home was in Cleveland, OH. The lady who was our first mom had us since we were wee kittens. She was moving into a new house with someone who didn’t want us. A friend of mom’s was trying to help find us homes. Mom was only going to take Ginger & Spunky, but she ended up with all of us! Our sister, Angel Panda, came along too.

Lily:  I was a senior cat living at the Kentucky Humane Society. Mom always wanted a solid white kitty. I was there with another white kitty (a boy cat). He was only 2 years old and I was about 8. She couldn’t choose between us so we both came home with her. Fred crossed the Bridge last August.

Cash and Johnny:  Mom had taken a friend and her kitty to the vet’s office. While she was waiting for them a couple came in with us. They had moved into a place where they couldn’t have pets and they wanted to surrender us. The vet’s office didn’t take surrenders. Mom didn’t want us to go to a shelter, so we came home with her.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Tell us a little about the area where you live.

Clarissa:  We live in Louisville, KY. That’s where the big horse race, The Kentucky Derby, is run on the first Caturday in May.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Do you have any nicknames?

Clarissa:  My nicknames are Rissa Roo the Kitty Poo and Baby Girl.

Sable: I’m Boo or Mama’s Boy.

Fiona:  I’m Fee. Jazzpurr:  Jazz or Jazzy-Girl.

Serendipity:  Seren or Dippity-Do.

Daisy: Daisy-Doodle.

Memphis: Memph-Man.

Spunky: Spunkmeister or Spunky-wampus.

Ginger:  Ginger Pie.

Puff:  Puffy or Puffy Pants. And if mom is being fancy it’s Capt. Puff “Puffypants” McPufferson.

Batman:  I’m Batman!

Lily:  Lily Rose, Lily Mae, and my favorite, Lilly-Pilly.

Johnny & Cash: No nicknames for us.

Hi, I’m Johnny. Mom only sent a photo of 8 of us, so I submitted my own photo.

Funny Farmer Felines:  What kind of mischief do you like to get into, either separately or together?

Cash: I like to pin Johnny down and bite him!

Clarissa: We really don’t get into a lot of mischief now. Since we are all senior kitties we seem to have settled down. Mostly we just take turns sleeping on mom. Occasionally we play with our catnip cigars and bunny kickers. And once in awhile we get the zoomies and chase each other.

Jazzpurr:  I used to climb the curtains when I was a lot younger!

Funny Farmer Felines: What made you open a blog?

Clarissa:  Mom helped me start a blog a few years ago. We would visit other cat blogs and it seemed like a fun thing to do. Our is called Clarissa’s House of Cats. I wanted to call it Clarissa’s Cat House but mom wouldn’t let me. We try to participate in special blogging events but mom is forgetful.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Do you belong to the Cat Scouts?

Clarissa:  We don’t belong to the Cat Scouts. We’ve thought about joining, but we just haven’t done it. It looks like it could be a lot of fun though.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Are you on any social media you would like to share with readers?

Clarissa: Sable and I used to have Facebook pages, but now it’s just the blog.

Funny Farmer Felines:   What is your greatest love and your biggest fear?

Clarissa: I love my mom. I don’t like the vacuum though. I think that’s true for most of us.

Lily: I’m not afraid of the vacuum cleaner.

Clarissa:  Because you can’t hear it.

Lily:  What?

Fiona: I’m not afraid of the vacuum either. I never have been.

Funny Farmer Felines:  Does your human foster any furbabies, work or volunteer for a shelter, make pet-related products …

Clarissa:  Mom doesn’t foster, but she has been involved in transporting a few times. When she went to Ohio to pick up Batman, Spunky, Ginger, Puff, and Panda, she took two large dogs up there to their forever homes. She also brought back a kitten for another lady. She’s transported two kittens to a friend who lives in South Carolina (about a year apart). Mom will network to help find forever homes for kitties in need of one. But with so many of us to care for she said she just can’t foster. Also, she would want to keep them!

Funny Farmer Felines:  How would you describe yourself?

Clarissa:  I’m definitely a Snoopervisor. So are Batman, Johnny and Cash.

Ginger: I’m more of an introvert. I’ll hide if visitors come in the house.

Daisy: I’m an extrovert! I love to talk to people!

Clarissa:  Most of us like to be out and about when it’s just mom and our Uncle at home. And if the person is a regular visitor, it’s okay. If it is someone we don’t know, most of us will lay low until they leave, especially if they are making a lot of noise.

Funny Farmer Felines:  If we were to ask your mom what she loves best about you, what do you think she would say?

Clarissa: Oh my. I think we would all agree that mom loves our purrs and snuggles.

PS – Is there anything we missed that would pertain to you?

Spunky: Uh….do you have any treats?

Funny Farmer Felines: We have some fishy flakes, Spunky. Would you like some?

Clarissa’s House of Cats might be composed of senior citizens, but they have retained their sense of humor and continue to enjoy life.
