Dog Owner Gets Library Cat Fired

The city council of White Settlement, Texas, has fired library cat Browser from his job.

The former stray has toiled for six long years as the town’s library cat. Lillian Blackburn, president of the Friends of the White Settlement Public Library, was quoted by the Star-Telegram as saying, “That cat has been loved by people of all ages for six years, I don’t have any animals. But this cat is so gentle and so lovable and he brings so much comfort to so many people, it seems like a shame to take him away.”

Browser’s career is ending because over at City Hall, some self-absorbed millennial* was ticked off that he couldn’t keep his dog at work. So he insisted that Browser be ousted.

You can sign a petition here asking that they let Browser keep his job. Or, drop by Browser’s Facebook page to offer your support.

Mayor Ron White is a Browser fan and plans on addressing the issue at a meeting on July 12th, two days prior to Browser’s eviction. He reminds council members that election time is approaching and a vote against Browser could spell the end of their political careers.

* Factually, I have no information on the dog owner who wants Browser kicked out, so the “self-absorbed millennial” label is my best snarky guess. And yes, I know “self-absorbed millennial” is redundant.

  1. Fudgie says:

If the d*g person wants to take the pup to work all he or she has to do is have his/her doc write a note designating the pup a therapy animal. Clearly the whiner needs a therapy animal.

  2. Well purrsonally we likes dogs and don’t see why the millennial wasn’t allowed to bring his dog to work, we get along great with our doggies. We thinks libraries should have both doggies and kitties. Fenris used to be able to go to the library with Mom, they just popped in to pick up her books and turn book in then left, sometimes they chatted with one of the librarians, but then someone complained and a big NO DOGS sign went up. They don’t have any cats at all, although Chimera did go in yesterday in her carrier.
