So she was at the Average Joe Cat Show a few weeks ago and saw this great take on the catnip mat idea.   It’s heated.  Yep. In addition to the catnip, they put one of those heat reflecting blankets inside the mat.  When you sit on it, the mat gets warm and toasty.  They have catnip spread throughout the blanket, but there’s a special pocket where they concentrate the nip for those kitties who want to play.

As an added bonus, the heat reflecting blankets make a great crinkly sound when you scrunch them up and chase your tail around like your bum is on fire too.  I think they are great toys.

And well, if you purchase one, you are helping Feral Care.  These good folks help feral cats in the Puget Sound region not only by caring for the cats but by educating people about them.  You can’t go wrong with that kind of place, can you?  Plus, they were kind enough to get a table at Purrfect Pals’ Average Joe Cat Show, which supports adoptable cats like me!

Hey everycat, Fred heer, with this week’s edishun of Mancat Mancaves.

This custom felted mancave is cozy and cumfterbul. It’s gray wich is a vary mancatly color like sumthing a jentleman mancat wood sleep in. It has tennikels in the top but the tennikels don’t look like hoo-has. It looks more like an upside down flying spagetti monster.

The tennikels look like they’d be fun to play with. Yoo could put sum nip thare and play with the tennikels and then jump on an unsuspekting cat inside the mancave.

See? Vary cumfterbul. I could sleep about 30 hours a day in this mancave. Whut about you?

Max-My Peoples watch zombie movies all the time and it makes me a-scared. If my peoples get eated into zombies, who will open the cat food cans?

Well…really…if they turn into zombies, you won’t have to worry about cans. Zombies are pretty slow, so all you have to do is trip them up and make sure they fall hard enough that their heads fall off. When that happens, they’re not going anywhere…and you’ll have a giant people-sized ready made meal. Real dead fresh dead zombie! It’ll last a LONG time, and if you have more than one person, you’ll be eating for YEARS.

Dear Max, I’m a 9 year old girl tuxie and I look a lot like you. I don’t have a boyfriend kitty and I’m starting to think I never will. I want to get married and have kitties and everything! I know there’s nothing wrong with me because I was fixed when I was very young, so why aren’t the boy cats coming around to woo me?

Um. Well. The whole getting fixed thing…it wasn’t because you were broken. Your people kinda wanted to avoid the whole having kittens thing. It SOUNDS mean, but they just didn’t want you to be saddled with the responsibility of having 62 babies and no job to support them. They meant well.

And I tell you what…you’re just fine being a single girl kitty. I mean, look at the bigger picture. We men, we waltz in and it’s all bow-chikka-bow-wow for a good 5 minutes, and then where are we? Out having fun with the boys while you’re stuck with the litter. Sometimes we don’t even come back! You women rock the world, and you don’t need some thoughtless tomcat coming around for kicks and then walking away. Embrace the single life! Take up a hobby, like decorative hairballs or sofa shredding, and be glad you’re not stuck with some unemployed boy tabby who does nothing but wander the streets at night looking for trouble and free tuna.

Max Max Max Max Max! WE’RE DOING THE M-WORD ALL THE WAY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY! We’re going to have to spend HOURS AND HOURS in crates and we’re going to FLY! I don’t want to m-word but I want to fly. So, how do I convince them to let me out of the crate so I can fly the plane?

Dood, I couldn’t even figure out how to get out while driving across the country, and I didn’t even want to drive the car. I spent hours hollering and slamming my body against the sides of the box they stuck me in…wait, that actually worked. After like 5 hours they let me out and I got to ride while curled up at the Woman’s feet.

So I suppose you just need to drive the people batchit crazy until they cave and let you out. Surely if they let you out, they’ll let you fly the plane.

No reason not to, right?

We get shortchanged on Mother’s Day. We’re not acknowledged by most for the love, care and support we give the felines in our families.

It’s interesting from a sociological standpoint that as couples begin lives together and begin to build a family, even close friends can grow apart when one couple has cat kids and the other has human kids. Us cat moms have to endure hours upon hours of conversation about soccer games, ballet, bagpipe lessons, and how little Michelle is a prodigy to rival Einstein. Michelle’s parents don’t want to hear about my cats, they just want to talk about Michelle. We see each other less and less, eventually becoming just Christmas card friends.

That’s somewhat less the case with parents who also have cats, but ultimately, soccer practice and PTA meetings win out.

OK, maybe I’m just a teensy bit bitter that I’ll never be the star of Mother’s Day despite the fact that our cats are family in every way. When a cat has stolen a piece of your heart, it is no less valid an attachment than that of parents and human spawn.

Those who say, “It’s just a cat” have never had a cat, have never experienced their rich emotional lives, have never been enriched by the parental attachment to these little furry beasts.

So, Cat Moms, whether your cats remembered you on Mother’s Day or not, let us salute ourselves for a job well done. We rock!

Vienna is now the home of the city’s first cat café, the Café Neko. Pawpularized in Japan, cat cafés are scarce in Europe. Café Neko is run by five cats: Sonja, Luca, Moritz, Momo and Thomas who socialize with the patrons and pad across catwalks while customers have coffee or a meal. They can also escape to private quarters when they’ve had it with dealing with the public.

The staff, Alexander Thuer and his Japanese wife Takako Ishimitsu, had to wade through three years of red tape to resolve hygiene issues. (Which, in the U.S. would take about 140 years and innumerable bribes.) We wish them the greatest success.
