Good News Tewsday: Cat Hero Saves Family in Fire

February 14, 2017 |

clairmont-fireA Hero Cat in the Alberta community of Clairmont put the bitey on his owner to wake her up and alert her to a house fire in progress. At first, she just thought Fluffy was poking her to get an early breakfast, but smoke soon enveloped them and they fled the house.

In the quote of the year,  County of Grande Prairie fire Chief Trevor Grant told CBC News Friday, “It is the first time I’ve experienced a cat waking a family member up.” (Who DOESN’T have a cat who wakes up family members in the wee hours?)

“The family cat bit the mom on the arm fairly hard and kind of woke her up to make her aware that something was not right in the home,” County of Grande Prairie fire Chief Trevor Grant told CBC News Friday.

Firefighters got a call around 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a family of four safe from the fire — thanks in part to their cat’s heroics!
