Today, we would like to introduce Jaguar, the Cat Scout . We suggest you not mess with her unless you want to tangle with her dad, otherwise known as her primary. She is new to scouting but she has dived in to get her paws muddy, so we’ll imitate her and just dive into the interview.
Funny Farmer Felines: Please introduce yourselves and your human.
Jaguar: Hello, I am Jaguar and I am the princess of the house. I have two humans, my daddy/primary whom I love the most and my mommy, also know as my secondary/press secretary. They go by Mike and Stephanie with other humans but I just know them as my humans. There are no other animals in the condo because my daddy does not trust me to behave myself and not start a fight I cannot back up.
My humans do have a habit of naming the animals that come up to the front door but I do not consider them family. The most frequent visitor at this time is a yellow cat named Taylor (after Taylor Swift). She is okay as she mostly just lays in front of the door and escorts my people to and from their cars when they are outside.
Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live together?
Jaguar: Back in October 2011, the secondary was getting ready for work and she heard me meowing outside of the door. She had been feeding, bathing, and playing with an adult male black cat that came and went as he pleased (whom she and the primary nicknamed Emerald) and she assumed it was him when she heard me and just opened the door wide. I ran in and ate the food, then decided I liked the place. I went upstairs and found my primary sleeping in bed and decided I would keep him company. After the secondary left for work, I charmed the primary and got him to stay home from work to play with me. The vet judged me to be about 6 months old at the time.
Coincidentally, Emerald is the reason my primary does not trust me around other animals… Emerald showed back up a few days after I claimed the home and I hissed really big at him even though he was 4 times my size. My daddy had to protect me and ended up getting hurt by Emerald in the process. Emerald did leave that day eventually and since then, no other animals have come inside.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any nicknames?
Jaguar: I have had many nicknames and different ones come up regularly, mostly from my daddy. The ones I can think of off the top of my head are “Yag, the Jag, Kima, Orenishi, and Jag-You-Are. Sometimes I am also called “Stop it.” I find this is often when I am having fun with household items such as venetian blinds or treadmilling with my front paws on the wooden door that leads to the washing machine.
Funny Farmer Felines: What kind of mischief do you prefer?
Jaguar: I patrol both the front and the back glass doors, chirping at the birds, rabbits, and occasional squirrels. Stray cats sometimes come by and my humans will either give them some of my wet food (which is not really ok with me) or some of the dry food I won’t eat (which I am somewhat ok with, as long as they let me eat some wet food on my side of the door at the same time). If a cat really interests me or gets too close to the door, I will paw the door and demand that my secondary take me out to see the other cat in my territory. She’ll usually oblige me so I’ve met 3 cats so far, though none of them stuck around to come inside. Lately there has been a terrier dog that has come by a few times but I do not really want to meet any dogs in real life. We used to have wooden detailing on the door but I broke it all off through both chewing and grabbing and banging it with my claws.
I have A LOT of toys and the secondary (who is also my press secretary) has learned to multi-task, moving a cat wand in one hand while getting dressed/doing laundry/computing/taking telephone calls. If she stops, I bite her calves or heels (assuming I have not walked away or taken a nap on my own accord).
I have been on the computer myself, not through the humans, twice. One time I pulled up a clip of Apollo 13 while my secondary was in the shower (my primary was at work so I couldn’t blame him) and another time I posted a series of 0s and 1s as a status on her Facebook page. She has been careful not to leave the computer on with me around unmonitored since then.
When I am not busy doing all/any of the above, I can generally be found napping on Jaguar City, either in the Mayor’s Office (third level) or on the penthouse (top level), watching television (My Cat From Hell is one of my favorites) or curling up on top of/in between the legs of my humans. I will also sometimes nap sprawled out next to my primary with my head in his armpit, especially when the secondary is not home.
Funny Farmer Felines: You aren’t blogging at this time. Do you have any plans to open one in the future?
Jaguar: I have considered it, but my humans work a lot and, as I stated earlier, the secondary will not leave me alone with the computer when it is on anymore. I will keep it in mind as a possible goal for the future though.
Funny Farmer Felines: You recently joined the Cat Scouts. What prompted you to join?
Jaguar: My parents were both human scouts when they were little and I thought I would carry on the tradition. So far all of the other Scouts have accepted me as one of their own with no questions asked.
Funny Farmer Felines: What inspires you the most about the Scouts?
Jaguar: I like the community service that they do, sending cards to sick and/or lonely folks.
Funny Farmer Felines: What badges are you working toward and what type of activities are you involved with in Scouts?
Jaguar: I am working toward a media badge, which this interview will help with (Thanks!) as well as different botany badges. I also attend the parties and campfire outings they have.
Funny Farmer Felines: You mentioned you belong to something called You Pet. What is that?
Jaguar: YouPet.com is a social networking site for animals/pets and we let humans have their own pages too on the site if they want them but the focus is on US (as it should be). They have a Star of the Day each day Monday through Friday and they have a Weekly Pet of the Week who gets a prize in the mail! I have not won star of the day yet but I just recently won Pet of the Week and received two bags of cat treats and a big bag of dry cat food (though my favorite part was the Saran wrap and ribbons they tied it all up with for delivery).
I have managed to meet a lot of different animals that I would never talk to (except through a closed door!) in real life: dogs, cats, birds, mice, horses and even frogs and fish! It is surprising how many different animals are on the Internet these days. So that is the main page I write my blog/diary posts on, as well as send treats and messages and post videos and pictures. I even wrote a letter to Santa there and he picked my letter as his favorite and sent me a PetSmart gift card!
I also have a Catster account and Catbook on Facebook but I rarely if ever update them.
Funny Farmer Felines: If your mom were to describe what makes you special, what do you think she would say?
Jaguar: My daddy says I am the most beautiful cat in the world and could do not wrong (except when I chew on his golf equipment). My mom would probably say that my dedication to my humans is my most unique trait. Cats have a reputation of being very independent and not needing people but I almost always want to be around mine and I run downstairs and wait at the door when I hear my daddy’s truck coming up the block.
