OliverHughes Salutes and Tanner Blogs

feline-funny-farmer-friday

Many of you already know Oliver and Tanner from the Four Crazy Cats blog. And many of you have met OliverHughes through the Cat Scouts. They are one and the same. There is another Oliver in the C.S. Membership, so he needed a distinct identity.

Funny Farmer Felines: Please introduce yourselves and your human.

OliverHughes: I am OliverHughes to my Cat Scout buddies, or just Oliver to my blogging friends. I am one and a half years old, and I am solid black. My full name is Oliver Hughes.

Tanner: My name is Tanner. My full name is Tanner James. I am 13 years old and I am a cancer survivor! Our human lives with her human sister…we refer to her an Auntie on our blog. Auntie has three cats as well, so there are 5 cats and 2 humans in our house.

Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live together?

Tanner: I came to live with mom when I was 13 days old. I was born in a closet, in a cage, to a feral mom. She had been trapped and they were going to get her in for spay, but she gave birth before that happened. I sure am thankful! She buried me in the litterbox, so the foster mom pulled me and my siblings off of her and put us with another mom cat. I have three biological siblings – two sisters and a brother. The new mom cat took us in, but there were bigger kittens we had to fight to get a seat at the buffet, so we did not thrive. My mom took me and my sister home to bottle feed us. We were fosters, but I started working my magic from day one. A few months later, mom adopted me officially!

OliverHughes: I was found under a tree by a couple out walking one evening. They did not know what to do with such a small kitten, so they took me to a place called the shelter. I could sort of eat, but not really. There was talk of something called euthanizing because I couldn’t eat on my own very well. Thankfully, a lady came and took me home with her and gave me milk in a bottle. She kept me for a few days before my mom showed up to take me home. She was smitten with me from the first moment she saw me and called me her doodle. When we got to the house, I met Tanner. I think he loved me as he started washing me right away.

Tanner: I was so happy to have a little baby to take care of again! Mom, can we get some more?

Funny Farmer Felines: Tell us a little about the area where you live.

Tanner: We live in North Carolina in the USA. The weather is nice here. Hot in the summer, but usually mild in the winter. We get enough snow to enjoy it, but not as much as most.

OliverHughes: We have great bird TV here. There are many kinds of birds that visit our house daily.

Funny Farmer Felines: What kind of mischief do you prefer?

Tanner: I don’t get to do it often, but I love to chew on a plastic bag! I also insist on sitting on the table while mom and Auntie are having dinner. I can be quite rude about asking for a bite of something.

OliverHughes: I am still a baby, so I get into a lot of mischief. I am very curious about everything! I love to help Auntie shower and just get soaked. I don’t like the blinds being closed because then I can’t see the birds, so I play in the blinds to see if I can convince mom to open them.

Tanner: You talk a lot too, Oliver. Mom is always having to tell you to be quite in the night.

OliverHughes: I just love to talk! There are so many things going on in the night that mom is missing because she is sleeping! I want her to see all the toys I am bringing to her.

Tanner: She sees your toys in the morning and always comments on how busy you’ve been. You should just sleep like the rest of us!

Funny Farmer Felines: Your blog opened in 2006, so you are experienced bloggers. What inspired you to open your blog?

Tanner: Mom started our blog just as a way to journal about our lives. There were four of us cats at the time, Mojo, Smokey, Devon and me Tanner. That is why our blog is named “Four Crazy Cats”. In 2008, Mojo was diagnosed with cancer and it became a way to spread the word about Fibrosarcoma. Mojo and Smokey both had environmental allergies, so we documented our trials with them and our successes with the immunotherapy injections.

Mom loves to share our stories and hopes that the information and experiences will help another cat family one day. The friends we have made through blogging is something we really never expected! We feel so blessed to have many friends purring for us. I am especially thankful, as our friends purred for me as I tried to lose weight in 2013 and then when I was diagnosed with Renal Lymphoma in 2014.

Funny Farmer Felines: OliverHughes, What do you like best about the Cat Scouts?

OliverHughes: I love all the friends I have made through the scouts. I am in the Thundercats Patrol.(ROAAARRR) Being in the Scouts gives me and mom time together as we try to get photos for badges.

Funny Farmer Felines: How long have you been a Cat Scout and what type of events/badges interest you, Oliver?

OliverHughes: I joined the scouts in January 2014. I have participated in several quests; those are my favorite. I have also earned quite a few badges. Sometimes it is hard to participate in everything the Scouts offers because mom works two jobs and volunteers with her church. I love that there are so many activities to choose from.

Funny Farmer Felines: Do you two get to participate in many cat blogging events such as Meow Like A Pirate or Box Day?

Tanner: I’ll answer this, since you have been talking a lot, OliverHughes. We used to participate in all the blogging activities, but this past year, mom has been so focused on my health that we have mainly blogged to keep friends up-to-date.

Funny Farmer Felines: Tanner, are you interested in joining the Cat Scouts or do you have other interests you like to pursue?

Tanner: I think I’ll let OliverHughes be the scout in the family. When he is trying to earn a badge, I am right there to support him. I let him try out his ninja moves on me when he was working on that one.

Funny Farmer Felines: If your mom were to describe what makes each of you special, what do you think she would say?

OliverHughes: I think she would say I am special because I love to nurse, or lick, on her fingers still. I also love to spend time with her. I talk and talk until she gets in the floor to play with me at night. She loves how I show how much she means to me in these ways. I think my mom is special because she gives me great hugs and shows her love for me and Tanner daily.

Tanner: Mom tells me she is so proud of me for all I have gone through. She thinks I am special because I am a fighter. I snuggle with her on the couch and love to play with her. I love my mom and think she is special because always picks my favorite flavor of canned food!

Funny Farmer Felines: What a great mom. Our Jan should read this and learn. Only buy our favorite flavor of canned food!

You can visit both of the boys, OliverHughes and Tanner, at their blog, Four Crazy Cats. And OliverHughes is always happy to meet more of his fellow Cat Scouts.
