There’s no time like summer to go camping… enjoying the great outdoors, roasting dead stuff over an open fire, s’mores … and the Cat Scouts Jamboree!
But, you can’t go camping without a tent.
Don’t have one? You can make a great one for the low low cost of free within about 15 minutes. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 wire coat hangers
- An old T-shirt.
- Hello Kitty duct tape
- Stapler or staple gun.
- Cardboard for base – I used the lid of a cardboard file storage box.
- Cushion for inside so you don’t have to sleep on the cold hard ground.
- Someone with opposable thumbs to help you out.
Here’s What You Need to Do:
STEP ONE: Straighten the hangers, then bend them into a gentle curve, like a rainbow:
STEP TWO: Poke tiny holes into the four corners of a cardboard base, and insert the ends of the coathangers into the holes:
STEP THREE: Secure the coat hangers where they meet at the top with Hello Kitty Duct tape, then secure the ends to the underside of the base by bending the tips back and taping them down with Hello Kitty Duct tape.
STEP FOUR: Take an old tshirt (preferably one with an interesting color and graphic) and stretch it over the frame you’ve made, with the neck hole centered in the front to serve as the doorway.
STEP FIVE: Tuck all the ends (fold under the armholes, too) under the base and staple as you go along.
STEP SIX: Add a comfy pad and give it a test drive!
