Edna Gets Her Day in Court

Edna the firehouse cat may be getting another chance to return home.

The San Francisco Fire Commission’s meeting on February 27th may be attended by hoards of crazy cat ladies rallying for Edna’s reinstatement as the Station 49 firecat. Edna’s Instagram account has been asking her fans to attend the meeting and speak in favor of allowing Edna to return to the only home she’s ever known.

“I hope if you’re able to, please attend this up coming fire commission meeting Wednesday evening 2/27 to voice your support for my return and to offer Commissioner [Joe Alioto] Veronese suggestions for Station 49,” wrote Edna.

So here’s your chance to weigh in. The Fire Commission allows “general public comment” at the start of meetings. Wednesday’s starts at 5 p.m. and will be held at Room 400 in San Francisco City Hall.

Edna was evicted when an anonymous complaint was filed about the presence of the cat in a facility with sterile medical supplies. Edna is currently staying at the home of a member of the station, but it’s not a permanent solution. The person already has several pets and can’t keep her over the long term.

  1. Here’s some news for the busybody who filed an anonymous (cowardly) complaint. There are animals in animal hospitals where there is, gasp, sterile equipment. There are therapy animals in hospitals where there is, gasp, sterile equipment. This is one of the dumbest complaints i’ve heard about in a long, long time.

    1. I absolutely would have attended the meeting in SF, but a few days earlier had a traffic nightmare trip into SF, trying to navigate Van Ness with all the construction and find a parking spot. Couldn’t work up the wherewithall to make a rush-hour trip into SF. But my heart was with her. Now I feel really badly that only a couple of people showed up.
