We are pleased to interview Lola and Lexy, two queens (regal kitties) from Queens (New York). They hail from the blog Lola the Rescued Cat.
Funny Farmer Felines: Please introduce yourselves and your human.
Lola: I’m Lola, also known as Lola The Rescued Cat. I’m a five year old brown tabby with white paws, and I’m very loveable. I love giving kisses! I’m also very chatty and I’m always meowing about something. I love playing with strings.
Lexy: I’m Lexy, the older sister at 7 years old. (Mother doesn’t know our exact ages, but this is what the vet has told her.) I’m a lovely black and white cat with a perfect pink nose. My favorite things include small toy mice, organic cat nip, Temptation treats and boxes. The smaller the box the better, and I never met a box I didn’t like.
Lola: Our Mommy is Dawn. She is a psychologist and a massage therapist. (Some combination, huh?). She got into the world of blogging after our book was published. She’s a great Mommy and spoils us all the time.
Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live together?
Lola: We are both rescue kitties! Lexy adopted Mommy in April of 2010 and after several months she decided Lexy needed a friend. She saw my picture on Facebook and came to meet me when I was still in the hospital. She liked me even though I rubbed my runny nose on her, so I decided to adopt her. That was in January of 2011.
Funny Farmer Felines: Tell us a little about the area where you live.
Lexy: We live in New York City in what is called one of the “outer boroughs” called Queens. We live in an apartment building on the third floor, but we’re lucky because our apartment faces the neighbors’ back yards so we have lots of trees. We get to see lots of birdies and squirrels on the roof next door and in the trees and yards. The subway is down the street, and sometimes we can hear it late at night. Oh, and a doggies lives next door and we always watch each other.
Funny Farmer Felines: Lola, you wrote a book. Please tell us a little about it.
Lola: I’m very proud of my book. It’s my life story and I tell my tail … I mean tale of how I was abandoned and then rescued. I also got very sick and I write about my recovery. It’s my diary and I decided to share it with the world to shed light on what happens to animals when we are abandoned or neglected. I urge humans to take care of their pets and to adopt, not shop! Ten percent of our proceeds are donated to animal rescue groups and shelters.
Funny Farmer Felines: You have been blogging since December 2014. What prompted you to open a blog?
Lola: Before we started our blog we had been on Facebook since January 2011 and had a large following. After publishing our book, Mommy realized we needed a blog to promote it and expand our audience and make new friends. It has been a lot of fun, and a big learning experience.
Funny Farmer Felines: Lexi, what is your role on the blog?
Lexy: My main role is that of resident reviewer. I do most of the reviews, but sometimes I let Mother or Lola do one. I also share my selfies and my thoughts on life. I love to pose for photos and share them with our friends.
Funny Farmer Felines: We understand you have your own Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram accounts. Do you have any problem keeping up with all your social media fans?
Lola: Yes, we do have a hard time keeping up with everyone, mostly because Mommy works a lot. We try our best because we feel if kitties take the time to comment on our accounts, we should comment on theirs as well. We have met so many wonderful kitties and humans and are very blessed.
Funny Farmer Felines: If we were to ask your mom what she loves best about you, what do you think she would say?
Lola: Mommy loves us both very much and in different ways. She always says I make her heart sing. She says I’m resilient and even though I had a rough start in life I’ve left all of that behind me and I’m a happy, friendly kitty. I’m also a love bug, and I’m always snuggling with her and giving her kisses. I’m her shadow. If you want to find Mommy, just look for me. She also loves my white socks and my long, elegant tail.
Lexy: Mother says I make her heart melt. I don’t trust all humans very much, but Mother knows she is the only human I trust wholeheartedly. She says if I were human I’d have a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. I’m always making her laugh by my antics and she never knows what she’ll find me doing. And she loves my perfect pink nose.
