Today, we are interviewing the gang from Alasandra, the Cats and a Dog blog. We are sad Arty Mouse was unable to be here. She is presently missing, but we’re hopefully anticipating her return.
And before you ask, yes, that is a dog you see in the above graphic – in a cat ezine! But Fenris is as much a part of the AFS&S family as our woofies are to ours, so we are including him. If you dislike or fear woofies, just pretend he’s a giant pussycat. (He really is.)
We have a lot of ground to cover, so let the confessions … um, the interview begin.
Funny Farmer Felines: Would you introduce yourselves and your family to our readers?
Socks: Well I am the oldest so I’ll start this one. Mom (y’all know her as Alasandra) is a housewife and she home schooled the boys when they were little. They are grown now. The eldest has a Masters Degree in Computer Science and the youngest is a senior at the University of South Alabama. Dad is an engineer and he works for a Defense Contractor. Scylla was adopted with her sister Charybdis when they were 4 weeks old. The Mom wanted a dog real bad so she asked for a fence for Christmas so she could get a dog for her birthday and that is how Fenris came to live here. And after Charybdis died we adopted Artemisia.
Scylla: My favorite color is PINK. My favorite treat is Friskies Natural Sensations with real Tuna. Any food except salmon, Mommy keeps forgetting I do not like salmon. She thinks this is very weird because I love tuna but Charybdis loved salmon and didn’t like tuna. Mommy is convinced this was a conspiracy by the two of us to drive her nuts. I am not that into toys. I prefer playing with someone, so my favorite toys are those that move, like Daddy playing with the laser light with me, or Arty chasing me down the hall.
Socks: My favorite color is GREEN. I like all treats and food but I especially like Homemade Tomato Basil Soup, It smelled so good I took it away from Fenris. Mommy felt really bad she didn’t offer me any, but she never dreamed I would like it. My favorite toy is the Cyclone Cat Toy from Bergan that Scylla won recently.
Fenris: My favorite color is blue. My favorite treats are cheese and frozen blueberries. I pretty much eat anything but I prefer table scraps instead of my dog food. My favorite toy right now is my new ball Mr. Bones.
Funny Farmer Felines: Your mom has given some of you an unusual name – Fenris, Scylla, and Artemisia. Do these names have any special meaning?
Socks: Well, to be fair the Mom hasn’t named any of us. But we all love to read and we love mythology. The Mom was going to name Fenris “Marrock” after a werewolf in a book, but nobody liked the name. Youngest was the one who suggested Fenris from Norse Mythology, also known as The Fenris Wolf. The Dad made a deal with Mom; if he got to name Scylla & Charybdis, the Mom got to keep them. His first attempt at naming them was War & Pestilence, but the Mom vetoed those names. So he settled on the names of two monsters in Greek mythology, which also means between a rock and a hard place and they certainly felt like that when Scylla & Charybdis wanted to be fed since they were bottle fed for a while. Artemisia started out as Circe, the Mom’s idea, but nobody liked it. Luckily one of our readers came to the rescue and suggested the flower Artemisia. Artemisia also shows up in the dark hunter books later as a cute baby so everybody was happy.
Funny Farmer Felines: Humans love nicknames, so we hope this won’t embarrass you, but what are some of the nicknames you’ve each been given?
Scylla: I has the most nicknames. The one I hate is Kitty Cow. Daddy thinks I is fat. I am also called Lovebug, Silly Scylla, and Trinity. I got the nickname Trinity because when I was little I used to run up walls just like Trinity in the movie, The Matrix.
Fenris: Daddy calls me Fenny Marrenny and Du-fuss.
Socks: Well technically I am Youngest’s cat and he named me. There is a dispute if he named me Socks or Kitty after my Mom, Miss Kitty. He called me both when he was little. Youngest’s favorite toy when he was little was a Winnie The Pooh doll Mommy had when she was little. He carried it everywhere and Daddy called him Pooh Boy, so since I was his cat I became Pooh Cat or Sockie Pooh. Daddy even created the Sockie Pooh song. I am also called Ninja Cat because I am good at being invisible.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you all get along well? What kind of mischief do each of you like to get into, either separately or together?
Socks: We all get along nicely now. Scylla couldn’t stand Arty Mouse (Artemisia’s nickname) when she first came to live with us but then they became best friends.
Scylla: Liar! I always LOVED Arty Mouse. Socks never gets in trouble. And Fenris is mostly a good doggie. I, on the other hand, am a handful. I have nearly clawed the garage door down and I have scratched huge hunks of carpet up in order to get in rooms. I is bad to the bone. We are not discussing my bathroom habits. This is a family publication, right?
Fenris: I likes to chase squirrels. Arty Mouse is my best friend; she actually PLAYS with me. The other cats won’t play with me. We do lay next to each other sometimes. But not too close. Cats have these things called boundaries and you has to respect them if you don’t want to get whapped. Cats are scary creatures.
Funny Farmer Felines: You’ve had some unusual adventures, such as the time you crossed paths with a cottonmouth. Do you have a lot of interesting – and, hopefully, less dangerous – wildlife on your property or nearby?
Fenris: Since we have a pond we has lots of wildlife. Muskrats, beavers geese, hawks, hummingbirds, butterflies, egrets, herons, kites, rabbits, squirrels, possums, racoons, armadillos, and sometimes a deer. The beavers tried to eat up the Butterfly Garden and we had to ask a trapper to trap them, Armadillos dig up our yard. Coyotes are also rumored to be in the neighborhood.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do any of you have a special ladycat or mancat in your life?
Socks: MoMo, who has of course gone to the Rainbow Bridge. She will always hold a very special place in my heart. But Samantha of Life from A Cat’s Perspective has helped heal my broken heart.
Scylla: King Brian from Brian’s Home blog. Good thing Arty isn’t here, we would be here forever as she listed her boyfriend Prince Casper (Cat’s Cats) and all her suitors – Tiny Johnson from Katnip Lounge is her number 1 suitor but there are tons more. It is sickening the way the boys line up to chase the little minx. Why she even has horses on her string, although I has to say Chrome and Vidock are studs.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you belong to any clubs or groups? We know you participate in special blogosphere activities, such as Livestrong Day, Meow or Bark Like a Pirate, Gardening, etc. You keep very busy and you’re always posting graphics for furries sick or at the bridge and telling everyone about a furry in need of help.
Scylla: I belong to The Ladies of Autumn
Socks: Tabby Cat Club
Funny Farmer Felines: Um, we thought you were more involved in activities. Would you care to elaborate a little?
Scylla: Oh yes I has lots more to say. So glad I wasn’t talking too much. That is a constant complaint around here. Er, besides The Ladies of Autumn, I is in the cast of the Real Housecats Season 3 and was cast in The Great Catsby. Not sure the movie will ever be out as MoMo was the star of the production. It was a lot of fun working on it with her. And of course we all belong to The Society of Feline Gardeners. Now I really thinks Socks should Meow some more.
Socks: You know I do have a reputation as a strong silent type to maintain. All this chattering isn’t good for it. Sigh. OK! I also belong to the Mancats Club, which hasn’t been the same since Mr. Tigger went missing, and the Kool Senior Kitty Club.
Fenris: Us doggies really need some clubs. I don’t belong to any. Well except the Society of Feline Gardeners cause Jonesie is really nice and said doggies could come too. I do get to go walking with Mom and her friend Tammy and when we stop for breakfast at Bayview Gourmet, Tammy gives me half her breakfast. Mommy is a pig and licks her plate clean so I don’t get any leftovers from her, although as she eats weird things like artichokes, so maybe that is a good thing. I mean who eats artichokes for breakfast?
Funny Farmer Felines: Your blog began in October 2006 but it hasn’t always been a pet blog. In fact, we couldn’t find you furries blogging before some time in 2008, and then suddenly there you were. Especially you, Socks, as you and your lovely girlfriend Momo were hotpawing it all over the globe with Sassy and “the gang.” We’re glad you acquired the blog but how did you manage that – hijack it from your mom?
Socks: Since I was the only one around at the beginning I guess I’ll have to answer that. It is all Blogger;s fault. Mommy’s very first blog was a homeschool blog. Then blogger made some sort of change or something. Anyway the old blogger got really hard to use but Mommy’s blog wasn’t scheduled to be switched over to the new platform for ages. She got really aggravated and just started a new homeschool blog, so she could use the new platform which worked better. So the old homeschool blog just kinda sat there lonely and discarded, even after it got switched to the new platform. Then Mommy started blogging about stuff that wasn’t really homeschool related, so she blogged about it on the old blog. And then she stumbled on some cat and dog blogs and Scylla and Charybdis were like, we wanna do that. So she said they could have the old blog to blog on, and then they bullied me into helping them, and then I meet MoMo and she took me on all those wonderful adventures. I will always treasure my time with her.
Funny Farmer Felines: Blogging has changed a lot and many of the original furry bloggers have gone to the bridge or stopped blogging, for one reason or another, including their human has gotten hooked on Facebook. Do you plan to keep blogging, and if so, do you have any special plans for the future of your blog?
Socks, Sylla, & Fenris: We will always blog but we do have Facebook pages too.
Scylla: We don’t really have any plans for the blog – just to enjoy it and our blogging friends.
Funny Farmer Felines: What do you like most about blogging? What do you dislike about it?
Scylla: I likes meeting new friends most. I dislikes it when one of my friends needs my help and I am too far away to do anything but purr.
Socks & Fenris: Ditto for us.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any words of advice for new blogging kitties?
Scylla: Be yourself.
Fenris: Have fun.
Scylla: Sorry. Socks went to sleep. He is a senior kitty, you know, and needs his beauty rest. But I am sure he would tell you, “Don’t worry, be happy.”
Funny Farmer Felines: Many thanks to our guests for the day. We enjoyed learning more about them and really hope Arty will soon be home again.
