It’s a pleasure to have Oui Oui, Julie, Carl and Mica Minnie Moo from Twinkletoe Tails with us to dish the scoop on things we didn’t know – like where Oui Oui got her name … and if Oui Oui actually is her name.
Take your paw out of your human’s milk glass, wash it off, and settle in a comfy seat for the tail … er, tale of Twinkletoe, the blog.
Oui Oui: I am a seven year old tabby and I have never met anyone who hasn’t been my furriend! Julie and Carl are 16-year-old half-Persian siblings, but Carl is a black short-hair and Julie has long white furs. Carl is hoping to get his license and a hotrod convertible.
Mica Minnie Moo: I am a Siamese/tortie mix, almost 7 years old and have been here three years. It’s so much better than being Out There! I don’t ever go near the door, It has been an adjustment living so close to purrsons. I have some nervous problems so I remove my eyebrows and look like an alien, but the mom has been trying to help me. Oui Oui is a good sister and helps me too.
Oui Oui: There’s also the mom with that flashy box, and The Girl. The Girl lives mostly at a place called collich and is studying horses. She is a certified equine massage therapist, and her visits are really exciting!
Funny Farmer Felines: What nicknames does your mom have for each of you?
Oui Oui: Oui Oui is one of my nicknames, I earned it by always saying “yes” to play and with any toy. Another of my nicknames is Twinkletoes. When I run, my legs move faster but my stride stays the same length, so the mom started saying, “There goes Twinkletoes!” When the blog was started, there was never any doubt, Twinkletoe Tails would be the name. So what is my actual name? Let me think . . . its been so long since I’ve heard it! Ah, Sweet Pea – of course!
Carl’s nickname is “The Hoover” cause he’ll eat any thing, Mica Moo is “Waddles” and Julie is “Le B*tch”. Julie is a nickname too; her name is actually Jewell. The only time we hear our real names is at the vet’s, and the mom has on occasion forgotten they don’t know our nicknames, so when we show up there will be a new chart with the nickname on it.
Funny Farmer Felines: Mica Moo is an unusal name. Would you care to tell us about it?
Mica Minnie Moo:The mom and The Girl were going to name me Maiko but they decided they liked the shelter’s name for me better – Mica. The mom’s family has a long tradition of torties being named Minnie, in honor of her grandmother who called kitties Minnie no matter what the kitty’s name was, but Mica Minnie and Minnie Mica didn’t sound quite right, so the mom added one of my nicknames, Moo, at the end.
Funny Farmer Felines: You are individuals, each with a distinctive personality and position in the home. You hold a job title or two, Oui Oui. Do your siblings call you, “Boss,” or do they each hold a title or two of their own?
Oui Oui: Maybe I’m not the head kitty at the house, but I am the top kitty at the blog. I hold many job titles, among them are Chief Box Inspector and Chief Paper Shredder. I am the Pacifist, and would rather play than fight.
Julie: I AM the queen in this house! And I suffer no fools! Or other felines. In a purrfect world, there would be me, my mommy and no one else. I rule with an iron paw, the other kitties quake in fear and stay out of whapping range. I am butter in my mommy’s hands, all she has to do is look at me and I start purring. She says I look like an angel, with furs as soft as an angel’s kisses, but am possessed by a demon. Look at my sweet face, do you really believe that?
Carl: I am Julie’s laid back brother. Our mother was a grand champion who skipped out of the house one night and had a grand time. Her owners asked the vet to find a good home for us kittens and our mom was selected. I love to sing arias, especially in the middle of the night. It’s one time the mom doesn’t laugh at my squeaky little voice! I also love to eat treats and wear my tie. I am proud of my very manly name – Carlos Raphael Camaro. By the way, I am not afraid of Julie. I’m her brother, after all.
Mica Minnie Moo: I was the last kitty to join the family and I feel I should be queen of the house, so Julie and I don’t get along too well. The mom had told The Girl when she moved out of the house, she was going to replace her with a meezer, so when The Girl went off to college, the mom adopted me as Oui Oui’s very own pet kitty to play with. She adopted me from a shelter that specialized in hard to place kitties, and she didn’t realize I was feral.
Funny Farmer Felines: How did you all come to live together?
Oui Oui: I was at the local Humane Society shelter, alone in a horrible cage, the last of my brothers and sisters. The mom drove the grandbeans to the shelter to adopt a woofie.. While the grandbeans were filling out paperwork for their new woofie, the mom wandered into the cat room where a sweet tiny kitten (me!) was meowing its heart out.
Julie: Carl and I were living the high life at the vets and we enjoyed being the center of attention . . .
Carl: . . . when the mom walked in and the vet said he was looking for a good home for us, then asked the mom if she would take us both, and she said yes!
Mica Minnie Moo: I had just been picked up from living Out There. I hated being caged so I spent my time banging into the bars trying to get free. I was whisked off to a place where they stole my lady bits, then taken to a new place where the kitties lived together in a big room without bars. I’d only gotten there when the mom said she’d take me home with her.
Funny Farmer Felines: Is there a special ladycat or mancat in your life or are you playing the field?
Carl: Most of us are just playing the field, or in Oui Oui’s case, just playing. Julie does have a beau, Gabriel at Mewsings of Garden Cottage Cats. They love to catch stinkbugs and frogs at night Before she ran off to the Bridge, Admiral Hestorb and I indulged in singing arias at night, and laughed whenever we woke her mom.
Funny Farmer Felines: Every kitty likes to get into mischief.. What kind of mischief do you get into?
Carl: I love to sing at night and I can really crank up the volume! I am also a scientist of sorts, a kind of “experimental pee-er”. If it’s left on the floor or drops there, I like to see how it reacts to being peed on. I don’t get many chances these days, but when I do, I’m on it!
Julie: I fight with everyone! Especially Mica Moo. A house can have only one queen, and that’s me! Most nights I try to kill her from under the door. It just looks like patty paws, but believe me, we ain’t playing!
MMM: Ummm . . . ok. Well, I DO remove my eyebrows. And I taught Oui Oui the joys of counter surfing. She doesn’t steal any food, though.
Oui Oui: Yeah, and I like to do things I know I’m not sposed to. Its fun to look the mom in the eye and keep a straight face as I’m doing it. Lately I’ve been scratching a box in the middle of the night and every time the mom gets up, I act all innocent. Before that I would hide for hours and never let on when the mom called me, even if she walked right past me. We were rolling on the floor when she went outside calling me “Mew, mew, Oui Oui!” in front of all the neighbors, who must now know what a crazy cat lady she is.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you belong to any clubs or groups? And does your mom help you participate in any of the blogging events, such as Talk like a pirate day, LiveStrong, Box Day, etc?
MMM: We try to pawticipate in as many things and special days as our mom will remember. That’s another way so saying, its dicey, but we try.
Carl: Yeah! Just a couple weeks ago the mom forgot Julie’s and my Gotcha Day! Everyone else around the world remembered and was wishing us a great day and the mom was clueless.
Oui Oui: I’ve hosted some events at The Tabby Cat Club, which is a lot of fun, and so easy to do, too! The fall is the best time of year with Meow like a Pirate, Howl-O-Ween and Tockober all in a row!
Funny Farmer Felines: What do you like and dislike about blogging?
Oui Oui: We love all of our blogging friends, and it tears our hearts up when a kitty is sick or runs off to the Bridge. It makes us sad, even if we don’t know the kitty who has gone on, cause we know the pain involved for all the loved ones. We had no idea how many wonderful purrsons and kitties were out there, just waiting to hear from us. Each and every one is a lovely gift.
Funny Farmer Felines: You’ve been blogging since August 2011. What advice would you give to anyone just starting a blog?
Oui Oui: Follow your heart and have fun! Also, read other blogs and leave comments so you get to know everyone waiting to be your friend, and as a bonus, you’ll get ideas for future posts too.
