Toby and Leia, the cats of The Whiskeratti, are our guests today. We have enjoyed interviewing them and we’re sure you will enjoy reading their story.
So pull up a pawstool and make yourself comfortable.
Toby: I’m the big orange mancat with either Maine Coon or bobcat in my lineage. I’m very sweet, but don’t believe my mom – I am not a fraidy cat! I love sleeping more than almost anything else.
Leia: I, Princess Leia, am a petite gray and white tabby ladycat. I am a watcher and a huntress and I guard our house. Some people say I chase my tail like a dog, but I will neither confirm nor deny such a vile rumor.
Toby: We’re strictly indoor felines. Mom says it’s a crazy world out there, plus we are in the city.
Leia: Mom has been owned by felines for many years now, and is quite adept at being our Chief of Staff and Pawservant, though, of course, training is always ongoing.
Funny Farmer Felines: How did you come to live with your mom?
Toby: I was a tiny fluffball of four weeks when I was found in a car engine one cold morning. My Mom took me in, after a week’s stay at the Stabby Place.
They cleaned me up and got me on solid foods. I didn’t know she was my Mom then, but this hoomin came to see me every day after work, and then she brought me home. That’s when I knew she was my Mom now.
Leia: I was a young lady of about 6 months, languishing in the Stabby Place office in a PTU, hoping for my Forever Home. I HATED being in that thing! To this day, I hate it. Anyway, one day some hoomin took me to her house with other kittehs and woofies. It was a crazy place, loud, too crowded.
I went a little crazy, started climbing the drapes (literally), and the woman brought me back. A few days later, my Mom came in looking for a companion for Toby. He was about 4 months then. It took me a while to settle in; it was just the three of us, so it was very quiet, but I was scared and confused and maybe a bit traumatized from before. So I hid a lot at first, but my Mom understands these things and let me be until I was ready to join the family – on MY terms. Ok, she did try to coax me out and talked to me a lot, but she never tried to force me to do anything.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any nicknames?
Both: MANY! Great Orange Behemoth, the Gray Lady, Smushkins, Tobers, and an assortment of other, more embarrassing nicknames. Apparently all kittehs must suffer this kind of indignity.
Funny Farmer Felines: Tell us a little about the area where you live.
Toby: We live in North Carolina, near Raleigh. It gets kinda chilly in the winter. Sometimes we even have that white stuff outside, and it’s almost time for that now. Other than that, we don’t know much about this… we never go out.
Leia: Except that one time I ran out a tear in the screen door. But then I saw Mom looking at me in shock and ran right back in. She fixed that screen. Mouses!
Funny Farmer Felines: What kind of mischief do you each like to get into? What is the funniest or worst thing you have done that your mom is aware of? You don’t have to tell is she’s still in the dark about it.
Toby: Mostly I sleep the days away, so I don’t get into too much trouble. But I do have an absolute passion for any kind of string, so Mom never allows me to have any, unsupervised. Which I purrsonally consider very unfair!
I do love to paw my Mom’s face when she’s unaware, like she’s trying to sleep. I lay beside her on the pillow and paw her mouth. For some reason she’s never receptive to this. A few times I’ve even gotten my paw INSIDE! SCORE!! But she really hates that so I can’t do this if she’s on guard. I can tell you, though, that sleepytime is a most excellent time for this kind of caper.
Leia: Well, there is the tail chasing rumor floating around. I’m pretty active. I play a lot on my own, batting at everything, including blanket tags if they show … running around a lot, having that classic catfit … assaulting a nip toy without warning… stalking a leaf that gets inside… I’m pretty versatile. Mom says I’m very much a kitten still, though I am now… well, a lady doesn’t reveal her age, does she?
And in later years, I’ve developed a zeal for harassing Toby. It’s too, too amusing to watch him get that outraged, bug-eyed look when I do. Kinda makes up for the earlier years when he pushed me around a lot. Do you KNOW how many times he hit and runned me right into a wall when he was walking past?
Funny Farmer Felines: What do you consider the theme or your blog?
Toby: Hmm…. we just post about whatever comes up. We don’t really follow the CB’s daily themes much.
Funny Farmer Felines: Do you have any special future plans for your blog?
Leia: Great question! We’ll confer after our next naptime and get back to you on that.
Funny Farmer Felines: You’ve been blogging since 2009. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Toby: The comments!! MOL!
Leia: And meeting new furriends.
Funny Farmer Felines: Toby and Leia are old blogging buddies but we enjoyed getting to know them better. Stop by for a visit. You can usually find them hanging out at The Whiskeratti blog.
